You've always heard the phrase "A mans best friend" to describe a dog. Truth is, it's very true. You have your girlfriend; you have your best buddy you've spent your life with. You have your family. But the minute you lock eyes in that puppy store, the minute you hold him and the minute you take him home, it was destiny. That little fragile puppy will always have a special place in your heart. You shower him with love and affection and time and everything a puppy would want. And they give back in ways you would never see at a first glance. You don't even think about it... until you think about it.
I am an average teenager with an extraordinary personality. And, as a teenager, I was suffering from the number one plague diagnosed to teenagers. Failure. I wasn't ever doing my homework. I was only acing Geometry, because homework didn't count as the grade, and Art, which doesn't even have homework. This homework was putting grades which would be a B into a C, D, or an F. In fact, I had 2. I was into a total panic attack, thinking "dead god, what am I to do? Is there any hope for me left?” I had piles and piles of homework that had to be done in 3 weeks. I stayed late up at night working and re-learning how much force is applied to a rope suspending 10 kilograms of rocks. This was living hell. I had no social life. It was go to school, get more on my workload, go home, do work, shower and sleep. I guess I do deserve this and I don't expect pity or anything but this was hard, but better yet, this was helping me prepare for the future.
After going through so much late work, I went outside. And the first thing I hear is the pitter patter of nails hitting concrete coming from my dog, tail wagging, tongue hanging out, and a face that you can't scold, coming my way. The second he had a good look at me, his tail went down, his head tilted to the side, and he sat. It felt so good to talk to someone. Or something. And even though they don't talk back, they make you think for yourself, finding the best solution just by looking into your heart. And he knows it's filled to the brim with good intentions. After I found the right thing to do, there's nothing more rewarding than a dog licking you in the face. Later that quarter, I got a 3.0 G.P.A.
That is what a dog is supposed to do. And I love him. Now every day, I come home to a happy dog, sitting outside, waiting for me to come home. And I just make sure he has too much attention from me. He taught me about life and he helped me go through a problem that without him, I would still be suffering from. He is the cure. And this, I believe.
