What details about the Holocaust experience became clearer or more vivid for you because of the video?
As they wandered around the site of Oschwitz, He would remember vivid events in his h ead and you can sort of feel what he's feelign as he walks where he once walked 50 yearsago.
Describe the video techniques used to tell this story:
Camera angles
They would use numerous angles to get the view of the entire setting around them. They would use worms eye, Exreme wide to get the depth of field of their surroundings, and close ups to show the emotion on both Oprahs and Elies face.
Graphics
They would use very disturbing pictures to get that sort of emotion and sense of fear and an idea of what they were doing inside the camps.
Interviewing
It would be a back and forth conversation with Elie making a statement of what he felt int he past and how it hurts him to enter the same grounds while Oprah agrees. Here and there, she would ask a question and he would answer silently.
Excerpts from the book
Since the book is a fiction/non fiction book, the excerpts only read to his perception and view of the history he saw. The scarign and traumatizing images that cannot be put into words.
What is the "madness" the Oprah and Elie Wiesel speak of at the end of this section?
The Madness refers to the inhumanity to their fellow man. how one can simply kill because they want to. And how many people died because of boredom to the S.S. Officers and how they all simply idsposed of the bodies.

Project: Icarus: Okinawan Taiko
Topic: Okinawan Taiko
I want to do my project icarus on Okinawan taiko. it's just somethin gi enjoy doing and i've been doing for the past 2 years. I can talk to my senseis and my senpais( teachers and instructors) as resources and people who can acknowledge i've been doing this.
So...
TOPIC: Okinawan Taiko
PASSION & STRETCH: I've been doing this for over 2 years and i love it. it empties all of my energy, it's a good workout and i can keep up the neighbors ;3
People are serious about this as am I and i meet wonderful new people every year so it make me want to keep coming back and make new friends.
RESOURCES & RESEARCH:
My senseis can tell alot about okinawan history and okinawan culture. Taiko is a celebration of the dead being brought back to dance at the end of every lunar year (usually during the end of summer, called 'Bon') and it lasts 3 days. So it's tradition that you make as much spiritual noise through the taiko to call the dead to come back. In Okinawa, if you play the taiko on days where the Bon isn't on, you're basically sending older people to their graves early. That's how important it is. But we're not in Okinawa and cultures and traditions aren't exactly strong here. and so people changed the tradition into a summer celebration. however, some people still believe the okinawan tradition.
PROCESS & PRODUCT: I will document the practices held every thursday. film and record the practices of the dancing and the drumming. I would like to make sort of a documentary with interviews and the such. Detailed interviews that would explain the purpose of the taiko prganization.

Alliteration FINAL
My Alliteration: Hephaestus
Home away from home.
My feelings are strong like the fire burning in the forge
Burning of passion, roaring through the wind
Combining ordinary objects to make the extraordinary gives
Me a sense of….
Accomplishment.
Confidence, I guess you could say.
I can create anything. I feel I can create life.
Wisdom. Strength. Power.
Every day I seize a new challenge and I can decide how to craft it.
How to fashion it and how to decipher it.
Utilizing my creations.
Robotics is almost second nature to me.
Releasing my birth, my children
To be used and be trashed. Seeing my projects perform their purpose
And simply be taken apart and destroyed.
I turn my head and, for better or for worse, ignore it
For I know it will be re-made superior to mine by others another day.

Angry letter
I have always been a fan of your Slurpees and Manapuas since elementary school. They’re delicious and cheap and it’s almost the only thing I order when I go to a 7-11. You have many good stores in many convenient areas and I just simply ask my mom to go in when I’m hungry and in 5 minutes, I’m at a 7-11. It seems it’s her store of choice too.
Unfortunately I’m not entirely satisfied with the interior of the store. It seems as if your employees neglect to clean or mop regularly. It’s rather easy to tell because on my way to the Slurpee stand, the ground is coated with a thin stickiness that could be the result of another person spilling his/her soda. And I step in it. Then there’s that feeling of grossness and it’s the kind of thing that could put a little sad face on your day. Another unfortunate thing is it happens so often, that it’s something I associate with 7-11. I let your employees know sometimes but only once did they seem to do something about it.
This is an easy problem to consider as just mopping it up and cleaning could help with the cleanliness of the whole restaurant. This could make people happier with your establishment and could make them come back for more and maybe become a regular.
Just the other day, during the Pan Pacific Robotics Championship, I went across the street from the Hawaii Convention Center with my friends and was surprised to see the line wrapped around the store like a mall during a Black Friday sales event. As I got my slurpee, The floor was stickier than usual and I saw strawberry Slurpee just laying on the floor and oozing through the cracks between tiles, spreading out. The employee cleaned it up when I told her, which is good. I stood in line, waiting to order my manapua and only one register was open. In the end, I waited 15 minutes to pay for 3 dollars of food. I knew the counter could’ve gone faster because it took a whole 60 seconds to buy a Manapua and a Slurpee. Plus, my Manapua was cold in the center.
I am not satisfied with the service and I do wish you could make an effort to fix things up a little bit. Your stores would be so much better if your employees took initiative and worked a little harder and better. This would result in a finer and better establishment. Thank you.

Teenage pregnancy FINAL essay
FACT: Over 16 million teenagers get pregnant every year in the US. FACT: Over 16 million of those pregnancies could’ve been prevented. Teenage Pregnancy is a huge problem in America. In fact, America has the most teenagers giving birth every year in the world! That’s a quarter of the Entire US population. That’s 20 of Hawaii’s current population combined! But here’s another fact. Once you get pregnant, there’s no going back. You can’t be in denial and spend that whole time wishing it didn’t happen or feel sorry for yourself. You need to get ahead of the game and take charge on what you plan to do with the baby. People look at three options. Abortion, adoption, and keeping the baby. One would think “what would the men do?” because only 9% of men really stay with their female partner to support the baby. Plus, there’s things such as funding and supplies, it get’s a little out of hand for a teenage girl. It indeed raises the question however “Why do we get into these situations in the first place and what can we do to prevent it?” My personal opinion would be that we would teach the effects of sex and pregnancy during elementary school to let them know instead of trying to protect them from the truth.
Abortion is a serious decision to make. It was also a very controversial topic. Back in the day, everyone thought abortion was unethical and disgusting and even thinking about the fact was like committing a crime. They believed that if you get pregnant, it was a will of god. God made you pregnant and it is your job as a carrier to protect this gift and raise it to becom successful. It was deemed illegal however, there were some underground doctors who would perform surgical abortion if sought. On December, 13, 1971, A debate occurred that rights to privacy included the decision regarding whether the act of removing parts of the fetus to terminate the pregnancy. In the end, Norma McCovery, representing Roe, won the majority and legalized abortion. There are many side effects of abortion whther it be physical or mental. Depending on the development of the uterus by age, and the amount of time pregnant, surgery can result in infection by exposure to air or internal lacerations, hemorrhaging, hematometra, or even, if it’s too late, an incomplete abortion in which, you’d have the scars to show for it but nothing happened. An abortion is generally the slicing of the inner wall of the uterus and the more you have, the greater the risks of the problems mentioned above. People with psychotic mindsets who have an abortion may be affected in a way where they’d grow a sudden attraction to the baby and they’d go crazy that they lost their baby. Either way, I’m not a strong supporter of abortion and I think it’s a bad idea.
Adoption is another option of which you could do. A person could go through pregnancy and by the time they would give birth, they would put up the baby for adoption. Frankly, I’m not a supporter of that as well but it’s an option. The baby now is conscious of what’s around it and it will grow up without a mom or a dad until it’s adopted and it would have to go into child prison most call an “orphanage”. The child would live a sad cruel life with parents who may love him, but cannot support it and then the teen now would live on the streets and be a crackhead. Worst case scenario. Some may be successful however. Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States, was an orphan. Louis Armstrong was an orphan. Marylin Monroe, Andrew Jackson. However, this is all opinionated. Views are changed depending on who the person is and their religious beliefs are. 1 out of 4 teens put their baby up for adoption.
You could always keep the baby. Over 50% of women keep their baby as a teen and raise it as their own. But teenage parents aren’t always the best. It’s mostly being set financially and being able to afford the entire baby’s needs. This would be great if the women are with the male as well. Like what was said, only 9% of men stay with their partner to help raise the baby. These men need to take initiative and revolve their time around work, and school. Besides, the environment a teenager would be raising the child in is less than acceptable. Psychologically, babies would imitate their parents in techniques and expression. They would watch how their parents would react to situations and they believe they’re right. They would catch on what people say and take on the habits surrounding them.
In a survey taken in 2007, 9 out of 10 teenage women who had been or is pregnant regret ever having sex in the first place and wish they could’ve waited. I don’t know what that one other girl was thinking… but it’s also opinionated as well. When a teenage girl get’s pregnant, there aren’t many options to take and all of them do have good sides to them but they always have more than enough cons. But the fact still remains that this happens and the numbers are decreasing, but not enough. People think about themselves but they need to think about the baby’s future as well when they get pregnant and they need to make the choice and they need to decide what to do.

OR card
I give it a 3. It covers the quote, gives a good summary, and it's a great book about Coming of age. Now, i only have 5 images in it. The book, which was written as a parody of what Queen Alyss was talking about in her lifetime, the Top hat, which was a symbol of great level. Especially Hatter Madigan. And the image in the background is supposed to be the "Pool of Tears" which was the Portal Alyss used to come to Earth. It doesn't meet the requirements but sustains the evel and i really like it.

College Essay
As you reach for the next paper of the thousands you need to read sent in by your secretary, you feel something out of place. A box. Curious, you slowly pick up the box from the large stack of essays and find out it’s a small, fancy box of chocolates. So you lean back, take a deep sigh, and opened the small box to see a folded paper inside. You take out the paper and it is in fact, another essay. You think it’s probably a kiss-up trying to “give” himself into the college but you start to read the title. And the first sentence. It said:
“My name is Joseph Doike. I am 17 and I wish to enroll in Washington University”
Don’t they all?
“You’ve probably picked up the box lid and realized there’s 6 different chocolates inside the box.”
You look inside the box and see that they are all different. Intrigued, you start over again from the top.
“My name is Joseph Doike. I am 17 and I wish to enroll in Washington University. You’ve probably picked up the box lid and realized there’s 4 different chocolates inside the box. I will explain it later. If you take a closer look at the cover of the box, you would notice that there’s a vibrant green ribbon wrapped around the corner of the box lid as well as a mix of gray and black thick lines and circles laid out on the cover box. The green ribbon states that I am environmentally concerned with our planet. Global warming and pollution is starting to make a major impact on our planet. It is even one of the prophecies thought to happen in 2012, which never happened because here you are, reading this paper in 2013. The gray and black lines and circles covering the lid under the ribbon states that I am quite fluent in HTML and understanding technology and machines. I’ve taken an Industrial Engineering and Technology course as well as MeneMac, which is a computer based core class back in Hawaii. After I fully graduate college, I wish to design buildings and structures for my future.
If you would examine the piece of chocolate in the corner, the chocolate that looks like poop spaghetti wrapped around a meatball reminds me how I felt growing up in High School. Scrambled. When I was in elementary school, the teacher would assign twelve math problems and we would all moan and groan and complain that it’s too much work. I thought that high schoolers got it easy with the work they do. They always glamorized high school as easy work and everyone passes so we all don’t need to worry about this. Now when I graduated to Middle school, I had periods. Social Studies, English, Math, Science, etc. And the homework began to multiply. And I still thought I would catch a break in high school. Now im a sophomore in high school and the ironic thing is, I would do anything for the homework I would get in elementary school or middle school. Now, I would have essays upon essays to write and sheets and books of work to do and every night when I would lie down in my bed my head would be like one of those programs when you do too much too fast and it would stop responding. I couldn’t think straight and focus on one thing. My mind would always veer away. My head became mush and soggy with brain juice just because I tired it out.
The one next to it is a chocolate that looks like a winking happy face. This is me. I always like to take every chance I get to “release myself”. As in just go out and have fun. I always like to go out and do stuff with my friends after school, talk, and laugh. People always call me different but I think that’s what makes me, me. I think that If I try to fit in with the regular crowd, then there’s nothing special happening. But when you meet new people and connect with them, it’s always a good feeling to meet new people. And they slowly learn who you really are and it’s just awesome. Friends make memories precious and wonderful. I remember when I went to a robotics sleepover and the whole team stayed up almost all night playing Rock Band, and Halo, games like that and I would go around to the people who were sleeping and draw on their faces. People laughing behind me. My point is, no one wants to be alone. You need people to make your life enjoyable and I really look forward to the new people I’ll meet in college.
Now next to that is a round ball with a plus on it. I am smart, although I prefer not using my brain when given the opportunity. When I focus on something I want done, it’s done with excellence. The plus stands for above average. And I am purely above average and I will not let people down and when I do, I feel so guilty that I did that I want to make up for it whether it’s late work, done with excellent excellence. Didn’t turn it in, fancy it up. I’m no genius, but I know how to do this.
You should turn your focus to the last piece. The present looking piece. A gift that keeps on giving. I think helping people and making them happy is a gift all in itself. Every year in Hawaii, there’s something called an Okinawa Festival. I’m involved in doing the shisa, which is a traditional lion that stands at temples warding the evil spirits away. It’s like a Chinese lion dance except less flare-y and tricks-y. I’m the back end of the shisa and I love it. It makes so many people happy to see something like that and the thrill I get when I see the little kids face through the mesh covering me makes me want to give it my all. Also, at a bon dance, you have a large tower called the “yagura” and people dancing around it. But in the way front, right next to the tower, you have drummers called Taiko. And yes, I’m involved in that. For the whole day, it’s volunteering at booths and selling food. And there are happy people everywhere I turn and I know I’m doing a good job in what I do. I do many more voluntary services but this one memory is my favorite. You may now sit back and enjoy your chocolates. Have a good day.”

Redone proposition
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/uploads/Recovery_Act_Innovation.pdf (Go to page 17)
http://www.scidev.net/en/opinions/china-should-support-solar-thermal-energy-research-1.html
Summary: These articles represent the fact that they want to reduce the production of energy with coal and switch to Solar energy. The first PDF file shows a numerous amount of things but on page 17, it starts to explain how we should be more dependant of the effects of solar power and wind energy. Same witht he second link. The benefits are way better when we switch to mother earth for energy than burning and releasing; the main problem for global warming.
Proposition:
They should continue development of solar powered energy plants.

Coming of Age
It was around 8 at night as I was helping my grandma pack up for her yearly Vegas trip (Trust me, she deserves it). Carrying my grandma’s bags down the stairs into my mom’s minivan, I hopped into the car and took the ride to the airport, where I gave my awesome grandma a good-bye hug and told her good bye. On the ride back home, I couldn’t help but think how exciting this coming week would be. With my Grandma not being able to pick me up from school, I had to devise a plan around a very busy schedule with my mom regarding my transportation. And since it was Exam Week, school ended roughly at 1 pm, which coincidentally, was my mother’s lunch break. My mom pointed out that she doesn’t often eat lunch and she would use her lunch break to come pick me up, and drive me home, which I would stay for the whole week by myself until 6. I was never by myself at my house because my grandma was retired and shops so I tag along to help her with the groceries. I live in a family of 6, so there’s always someone around. This was the opportunity to prove myself.
So let’s do some calculus. By my calculations, I have about 5 hours by myself, which amounts to 25 hours of ultimate freedom the whole week. That’s a lot of time.
But if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
My mom starts work at 7. In order to get good parking (which at her work, is considered 2 blocks away), I had to wake up at 5:30 in the morning. Everyday. On that Monday morning, as my mother woke me up from my sleep, I forced my eyes open and rose from my bed like a zombie. With effort, I swung my feet off the bed and returned to the morning routine of preparing for school everyday. I brushed my teeth, Changed my clothes, practiced my hygiene, washed my face, grabbed my bag, and finally I exited my house at a snails pace. It is now 6:15 and I have arrived at school. There’s barely 30 kids here and no one to talk to. So to pass the time, I read a book called “Why do men have nipples?” (Very interesting book. If you haven’t read it, you should) and before I knew it, it was 7:30. And the school buses came. My friends came out of that bus and we talked until the start of class.
After exams, I went outside the school towards the parking lot to see my mom parked in one of the stalls. I have never been happier to see her than I was now. I took the ride home, unlocked the house, and was left home alone. There seems to be so much more pressure as to what to do. I thought to myself “This is the week where you need to figure out the right thing to do on your own. You can either be a good honest person, or cheat yourself”
Let’s explore the possibilities first. I could be a good little boy by doing my homework, avoiding my video games, drinking water instead of beer, and other stuff that good little boys do. I wouldn’t know. I was never one of them. Or be a bad boy and play video games, watch daytime TV, and surf the web for games. Maybe stick to tradition and walk around naked like most kids do alone. But I’m not one of those people yet. Today was my turning point in my life. I had an opportunity. This was my chance to prove I was responsible and trustworthy. This was my chance to show I was mature. This was an opportunity to show my coming of age. And I did the right choice. I did my homework like a good boy, did everything I needed to do, and THEN I turned bad guy. No nudity. Sorry.
It was Day 3 of coming home alone and I was faced with a serious dilemma. Believe it or not, I felt lonely. And I should be used to being lonely considering how much of a loner I am by myself. But this was big time lonely. What’s worse, my internet was down and I wasn’t allowed to play games on weekdays. That was the longest 5 hours ever. I tried to take a nap but I just wasn’t tired. Tried to read my book but my heart wasn’t in it. I ended up sitting by my window just thinking about things. If only my life was more exciting. And I sat there. And I fell asleep.
Lets fast forward to Day 5. it was almost all over. But the best thing was that I have proved myself. I was responsible to look after the house by myself. I will admit that this is nothing compared to say, going to Maui by yourself, or being lost in the woods but this made a big impact on me in ways I never experienced. I learned to see things differently by being cooped up by myself for 5 hours at a time. I’ve learned to foresee the consequences before my actions and what was the right thing to do. Granted, this hasn’t changed me drastically to a point where I’m a “good boy”. I’ll always have the teenage habits but I view my privileges and my responsibilities in a different light now. I have pupated. I have grown from a child into a teen. But one day, I knew I will be faced the opportunity to grow from a teen, to a man. But truly, I know. I’m coming of age.

Nuclear Energy. Bearable or Terrible?
The main talk about the many ways to reduce the effect citizens and power plants have on global warming is Nuclear Energy. Nuclear energy utilizes the shemical "Uranium" which is and enhances radioactive materials. Now the government are planning to follow through with the nuclear power plant development around the globe to reduce the effect of pollution and global warming. I think it's strange how good they are at making it sound like a good idea; how everyone should comply with it and understand that it's for a better cause and also to save the Earth. But why don't people stop and think about the negative effect these plants peoduce if made. It's a terrible idea and one of the worst the government ever thought up. But will they follow through and save the planet? Or place it in peril? Do the pro's outweigh the cons? or is the government simply blinded by the main problem?

My Proposition and where I stand:
It's a hell of a bad idea. Excuse me for the language. There are many pro's and cons of Nuclear energy but the con's in my opinion will definitely outweigh the pros on any scale you could find. The Nuclear waste that is produced by the main plant is radioactive and remains active for 10,000 years after made (according to United States Environmental Protection Agency standards). Yet they're still planning to go through with the idea.
It has some definite pros, mind you. Uranium is a VERY efficient energy source. 1 ton of Uranium can produce the same amount of energy as 16,000 TONS of coal or 80,000 barrels of oil (One barrel of oil is equal to 158.987295 liters. Multiply that by 80,000 and you get 12,718,983.6 liters, or 4491 tons. I just saved you a whole lot of googling.) Yes. In other words, that's alot of energy. Also, the carbon dioxide output of the power plant is relatively low. So the contribution of it to the global warming problem is not a lot and will not affect the planet as much pollution wise. Plus these power plants don't need alot of fuel to power so when there's a worldwide blackout or something, and Uranium is almost equally deposited around the globe so there's no shortage of it. And that's it. Those are all the pros these things produce.
Here we go. Radioactive waste is a problem in itself. And that problem hasn't even been solved yet and according to the USPCA, the radioactive waste needs to be really carefully guarded for 10,000 years. Nuclear waste is included in the manufacturing of atomic bombs so if some crazy terrorist comes and gets their hands on the waste, it would be the start of World War 3. And speaking of terrorists, Nuclear power plants are prime real estate for terrorist attacks. If the building explodes somehow whether it's a terrorist attack or a machinery malfunction, a failure, or an accident, it would have apocalyptyic effects on the world. Also, someone who understands the basic knowledge of a nuclear power plant and has access to the materials could make an atomic bomb and prehaps threaten the government for billions of money. The temptation is large and niceness isn't what you'd find on the streets these days.
Uranium is scarce and is rarely found around the world. Obtaining the Uranium is risking your life. You could turn into some sort of mutant or something. The mining process of obtaining uranium is very complicated and has many procedures which must be followed. After they mine the uranium from it's area, they must take care of the radioactive residue from the mining site and that could cause hazardous effects if it was exposed to the public. Even so, scientists believe at the rate of excavations of uranium, they perdict that uranium will survive on our planet for 30-60 years before it becomes extinct to our planet and universe. So uranium isn't exactly a sustainable resource for our energy needs.
So simply put, Nuclear power plants should be eradicated from the world and it not only is a problem, it produces millions of other problems that could threaten the existance of mankind. We have to look at the truth and understand the consequences that will come if we follow through with the development of nuclear power plants.
