FACT: Over 16 million teenagers get pregnant every year in the US. FACT: Over 16 million of those pregnancies could’ve been prevented. Teenage Pregnancy is a huge problem in America. In fact, America has the most teenagers giving birth every year in the world! That’s a quarter of the Entire US population. That’s 20 of Hawaii’s current population combined! But here’s another fact. Once you get pregnant, there’s no going back. You can’t be in denial and spend that whole time wishing it didn’t happen or feel sorry for yourself. You need to get ahead of the game and take charge on what you plan to do with the baby. People look at three options. Abortion, adoption, and keeping the baby. One would think “what would the men do?” because only 9% of men really stay with their female partner to support the baby. Plus, there’s things such as funding and supplies, it get’s a little out of hand for a teenage girl. It indeed raises the question however “Why do we get into these situations in the first place and what can we do to prevent it?” My personal opinion would be that we would teach the effects of sex and pregnancy during elementary school to let them know instead of trying to protect them from the truth.
Abortion is a serious decision to make. It was also a very controversial topic. Back in the day, everyone thought abortion was unethical and disgusting and even thinking about the fact was like committing a crime. They believed that if you get pregnant, it was a will of god. God made you pregnant and it is your job as a carrier to protect this gift and raise it to becom successful. It was deemed illegal however, there were some underground doctors who would perform surgical abortion if sought. On December, 13, 1971, A debate occurred that rights to privacy included the decision regarding whether the act of removing parts of the fetus to terminate the pregnancy. In the end, Norma McCovery, representing Roe, won the majority and legalized abortion. There are many side effects of abortion whther it be physical or mental. Depending on the development of the uterus by age, and the amount of time pregnant, surgery can result in infection by exposure to air or internal lacerations, hemorrhaging, hematometra, or even, if it’s too late, an incomplete abortion in which, you’d have the scars to show for it but nothing happened. An abortion is generally the slicing of the inner wall of the uterus and the more you have, the greater the risks of the problems mentioned above. People with psychotic mindsets who have an abortion may be affected in a way where they’d grow a sudden attraction to the baby and they’d go crazy that they lost their baby. Either way, I’m not a strong supporter of abortion and I think it’s a bad idea.
Adoption is another option of which you could do. A person could go through pregnancy and by the time they would give birth, they would put up the baby for adoption. Frankly, I’m not a supporter of that as well but it’s an option. The baby now is conscious of what’s around it and it will grow up without a mom or a dad until it’s adopted and it would have to go into child prison most call an “orphanage”. The child would live a sad cruel life with parents who may love him, but cannot support it and then the teen now would live on the streets and be a crackhead. Worst case scenario. Some may be successful however. Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States, was an orphan. Louis Armstrong was an orphan. Marylin Monroe, Andrew Jackson. However, this is all opinionated. Views are changed depending on who the person is and their religious beliefs are. 1 out of 4 teens put their baby up for adoption.
You could always keep the baby. Over 50% of women keep their baby as a teen and raise it as their own. But teenage parents aren’t always the best. It’s mostly being set financially and being able to afford the entire baby’s needs. This would be great if the women are with the male as well. Like what was said, only 9% of men stay with their partner to help raise the baby. These men need to take initiative and revolve their time around work, and school. Besides, the environment a teenager would be raising the child in is less than acceptable. Psychologically, babies would imitate their parents in techniques and expression. They would watch how their parents would react to situations and they believe they’re right. They would catch on what people say and take on the habits surrounding them.
In a survey taken in 2007, 9 out of 10 teenage women who had been or is pregnant regret ever having sex in the first place and wish they could’ve waited. I don’t know what that one other girl was thinking… but it’s also opinionated as well. When a teenage girl get’s pregnant, there aren’t many options to take and all of them do have good sides to them but they always have more than enough cons. But the fact still remains that this happens and the numbers are decreasing, but not enough. People think about themselves but they need to think about the baby’s future as well when they get pregnant and they need to make the choice and they need to decide what to do.
