Have you or any of your friends see the movie “Star wars”? Any of the movies? That is one of the best examples of Sci-Fi anyone can give. Sci-Fi movies are often found and seen in the future and what ‘could be’ rather than what ‘can be’. yes, modern technology will soon turn science fiction into regular fiction. Or even non fiction. Which is why one of the good things to see in any Sci-Fi at all is how realistic can it be. Movies like Back to the Future or Alien vs. Predator (which is still my favorite movie) is an exception because the main idea is a storyline that we know we cannot grasp in the future. But stuff like Star Wars and their A-wings, X-Hawks, Imperial Starships, I truly believe that in the future, we can have space battles like that. We can obtain the weapon and military that Star Wars has. Enticing action, suspense, drama, music, special effects or happenings is what also defines a good Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi authors and writers all enjoy the ability to create their own fantasy and share it with the world and shed some light on what can be the future. Sci-fi Writers and authors achieve success in the way they add emotion, drama, suspense, and incorporate the scientific breakthroughs of technological advances with a very good plot to add to the whole storyline.
One of the main things I look for in Sci-Fi is action. Is it enticing? Is it pulling you in? does the action take place in the right time and if so, was the build-up to the action sequence making sense? See, if it’s confusing, I don’t like it. It’s a turn down for me. Guy walks into a bar. Goes to the goy in the afro and punches him. It doesn’t make sense. Another thing that makes Sci-Fi good is a very excellent twist. Like someone said, some positives to lead to negatives. Like the movie, Irobot. That giant laser head dude wanted to rule the city and told them that he would put some modifications to make it better. But he didn’t say it would be better for himself and the robots ended up programmed with their behavior changed.
Another thing that draws the attention of Sci-Fi is the scientific breakthroughs and technological advances placed on a land that was somehow screwed years ago. Since that time, they have changed society as they knew it and built it to the setting they show you. Most of the time, the technologies that they showcase are technologies that we do not own in our world. it’s kind of like they’re crafting our future for us with what we can have and what we will have. Unproven natural phenomenon. Where it’s believable, but it’s unbelievable. Like I stated previously, the technologies showcased in many Sci-Fi’s should be somewhat realistic. An example of unrealistic technology is a muscle machine where the machine turns the users skin and muscles into iron. That’s never going to happen. Maybe what could end up as a good plot is the technology has a brain of it’s own and it showcases you that he’s a good technology but behind everyone’s backs, he talks to himself about his evil plan and explains how he’s evil. Then it set’s up some elaborate plot to bring it’s plan to fruition. Stuff like that.
I’ve always liked the thought of suspension of disbelief, where the plot, scenes, and events among other things need to be believable. You could ponder time travel and in your mind believe it to be real someday but unless proven otherwise in Sci-Fi, time travel is placed really out there. Is it really possible to bend the very fabric of time and if time travel machines are ever to be invented, shouldn’t we be seeing people from the future? And wouldn’t the people from the future have a serious case of déjà vu? You know, evil scythe wielding rabbits on Jupiter? Give me a break. When you see a scene that really catches your eye like maybe space battles in star wars, you would always think in the back of your mind that “What if this is truly possible? Can one day, scientists develop a way to shoot lasers? Or even giant propelling ships throughout space that can go light speed to visit other galaxies? Is navigation throughout the universe as easy as Han Solo depicts it?” You might also ask yourself if on other planets, there are humans. Not humaniod creatures like a martian, but real honest-to-goodness Humans like us? I wonder if the future is laughing at us about saying these sort of things. “Hey frank, these 2010 losers think we can’t have space battles. N00bs.” “John, Shut up and man the uber PZ40 proton laser!!!”
1st Paragraph:
ReplyDeleteThere’s a grammar mistake in the first sentence. You should probably change ‘see’ to ‘seen’ or just omit the sentence because examples are the main part of the body of your essay. Also, keep in mind that you mustn’t use the word “you” in your essays. Writing in third person makes it sound more formal.
2nd Paragraph:
It’s clear that your second paragraph is how sci-fi pulls you in, but instead of using an example of a guy in an afro punching another person, use an example from a sci-fi movie or novel to back it up.
3rd Paragraph:
There’s no problem with this paragraph. All you have to change is the capitalization of the ‘i’ in “it’s.”
4th Paragraph:
Quotations around "suspension of disbelief" would be best to show your audience the idea of what you’re going into detail to. In your seventh sentence, Star Wars should be written properly. Note that movies should be either underlined or italicized.
And I guess that’s it. Good job in writing this rough draft!
